Ouzoud waterfalls day trip from Marrakech
The Ouzoud falls drop about 110 metres into a green gorge in the Middle Atlas, and they are the highest in Morocco. It's a long day out of the city, but an easy one: a beautiful drive through olive country, a walk down to the falls with your guide, and time to sit by the water.
How the day goes
Pick-up from your riad or hotel and drive north-east through farmland and olive groves, with a tea stop on the way.
Arrive at Ouzoud and walk down the path to the bottom of the falls. Watch for the Barbary macaques in the olive trees, and take a small boat close to the falls if you like.
Lunch at a terrace restaurant facing the water, where tagines are cooked over charcoal.
Free time, then the drive back to Marrakech, arriving in the early evening.

Questions
How long is the walk at Ouzoud?
About 20 to 30 minutes down to the bottom of the falls on a path with steps, and a little longer back up. It's easy at a slow pace.
Can we swim at Ouzoud?
Some people swim in the pools below the falls in summer. The water is cold, so bring a swimsuit and a towel if you'd like to.
Are the monkeys safe?
The Barbary macaques are wild but used to visitors. Don't feed them, and keep food and phones in your bag.
